What if my tooth gets knocked out?
If your tooth gets knocked out, time is of the essence. Carefully pick up the tooth by the crown (the part that is usually exposed in your mouth), avoiding the root. Rinse it gently with water if it’s dirty but do not scrub it. If possible, try to reinsert it into the socket. If you can’t, place the tooth in a small container of milk or a special dental preservation product. Then, contact us immediately or head to our office as quickly as possible. Prompt action can increase the chances of saving your tooth.
-
What if my tooth is loose but still attached?
If your tooth is loose but still attached, avoid touching or wiggling it with your tongue or fingers. Try to keep the tooth in its original position and bite down gently to keep it stable. Contact us immediately for an emergency appointment, if it’s outside of our office hours, schedule an emergency appointment online. We will assess the situation and provide the necessary treatment to either save the tooth or secure it properly.

What if I have a chipped or cracked tooth?
For a chipped or cracked tooth, it’s important to act quickly to avoid further damage. Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area and use a cold compress on the face to reduce swelling. Save any pieces of the tooth that you can find. Avoid eating on that side of your mouth and contact us as soon as possible for an assessment and appropriate treatment.
